When you have a height issue, the more you spread the group out (left) the more you mask the problem.

The top and bottom from this group are too tight for us.  Too much a "pile of people" ... put some space and you will correct make the photo more relaxed and also solve the height issues here.

The middle group is better, but again, if the right side was more spread, the guy would not appear to be so tall.
